Face Masks, Shields and Thermometers For Sale

The City of Langford has face masks, face shields and thermometers available for purchase for Langford businesses and residents at Langford City Hall. Please call (250) 478-7882 for hours of operation.

School District 62 and Private Schools

June 1, 2020 - SD62 schools have re-opened to part time instruction as per guidelines received from the Provincial Health Officer and the Ministry of Education. View the Return to School Plan here.

University of Victoria

Classes have transitioned from face-to-face to alternative modes of instruction and evaluation for the remainder of this term. Click here to read the latest updates.

Camosun College

Camosun is planning for a mixture of online and in-person classes over the coming months. Where possible, courses that can be delivered remotely will continue that way, while courses with components that can only be delivered on-campus will be carried out in a manner that is safe for everyone. Click here to read the latest updates. NOTE: 

  • Camosun College has established an emergency bursary to support students experiencing financial hardship as a result of COVID-19.
  • Students may make a one time request for up to $200 to cover groceries and short term essentials.
  • Students can apply by emailing Financial Aid. Students will need to provide their name, student number, a description of the financial emergency and the amount of funding they are requesting.

Parks, Trails and Playgrounds

City of Langford Sports Fields and Court Surfaces

Effective immediately, the following sports courts and fields are now open:

  • Centennial Park Fields
  • Centennial Park Tennis Courts
  • Ed Fisher Field
  • AT Gordon Field
  • AT Gordon Sport Court
  • Veterans Park Sport Court
  • Sunshine Terrace Sport Court
  • Goudy Field

Play it safe and observe the following:

  • Keep at least two meter (six feet) away from people form other households
  • Wash hands thoroughly and frequently and use your own hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your face
  • Cough or sneeze into your elbow or a tissue.
  • Limit use at busy times, don't create a crowd
  • Don't share equipment, water bottles, snacks.
  • Stay home if feeling unwell, NO exceptions.

City of Langford & SD 62 Playgrounds

As of June 4, 2020, all City of Langford parks, playgrounds and public washrooms have reopened. The City asks that you come prepared with your own hand sanitizer and/or disinfectant wipes, and maintain safe physical distancing of at least 2 metres (6 feet).

Please note that the Glen Lake spray park is currently closed for maintenance.

Provincial, Regional and City Parks and Trails

Goldstream Provincial Park has reopened as of May 14. Please visit the BC Parks website for details.

At the direction of the Provincial Government, all public events/gatherings in excess of 50 people in Langford have been canceled or postponed.

BC Ferries

In line with directions provided by the Public Health Agency of Canada and other leading health authorities, BC Ferries is advising customers to avoid non-essential travel at this time.

BC Ferries provides a lifeline to remote and to coastal communities in British Columbia, and will continue to provide vital services, such as delivering medical supplies and groceries to support communities, and transporting emergency workers, doctors and nurses, safely.

To support physical distancing and self-isolation and to reduce the risk of spreading infectious disease including COVID-19, please note the following for your travels:

  • Customers can remain in their vehicles on enclosed lower decks
  • Pay electronically and 'Tap' where possible
  • Food and retail outlets are closed
  • Baggage service suspended on south coast routes
  • If a customer requires a wheelchair, they can request one at the terminal. To support physical distancing, we ask customers who require wheelchair assistance to travel with their own pusher.

ICBC

ICBC has temporarily implemented the following changes:

  • Insurance renewals can be done via phone or email. Contact your local Autoplan broker for details.
  • Starting June 11, ICBC will begin taking appointments for commercial (Class 1-4) road tests. This includes standalone commercial pre-trip appointments and testing for heavy trailers. Knowledge tests and motorcycle skills tests are now available by appointment. You can book your motorcycle skills test online. To book a knowledge test, call 1-800-950-1498 or 250-978-8300. All other road tests are still currently suspended.
  • Monthly insurance payments can be deferred for up to 90 days.

Miscellaneous Community Updates

Open Burning Suspended

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and current demands on city staff, Council has suspended the spring open burning period. This is effective immediately and includes any permits that have already been issued.

There are however several environmentally friendly ways to dispose of your yard waste rather than burning the materials.

They include the “Three C’s”:

  • Chipping
  • Composting
  • Commercial disposal             

The Westshore Chamber of Commerce and the Better Business Bureau maintain a list of local businesses that can be contacted to assist you with any of these alternatives solutions to burning.

Medical Waste, Recycling, Waterwater & Solid Waste

No additional or special precautions are required on either the solid or liquid side outside of the existing safe work practices, personal protective equipment, engineering controls etc that already are in place for these wastes.
