Miscellaneous Community Updates

Open Burning Suspended

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and current demands on city staff, Council has suspended the spring open burning period. This is effective immediately and includes any permits that have already been issued.

There are however several environmentally friendly ways to dispose of your yard waste rather than burning the materials.

They include the “Three C’s”:

  • Chipping
  • Composting
  • Commercial disposal

The Westshore Chamber of Commerce and the Better Business Bureau maintain a list of local businesses that can be contacted to assist you with any of these alternatives solutions to burning.

We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused and thank you for your cooperation.

Medical Waste, Recycling, Waterwater & Solid Waste

No additional or special precautions are required on either the solid or liquid side outside of the existing safe work practices, personal protective equipment, engineering controls etc that already are in place for these wastes.

Please refer to the attached circulations from the Solid Waste Association of North America and OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration)
