RCMP Operations with Langford, Colwood & View Royal

The West Shore RCMP Detachment proudly serves the City of Langford, and four neighbouring municipalities, an electoral area, and two aboriginal communities, from their detachment in downtown Langford.

Revenue and operating costs of the West Shore RCMP building are shared between the City of Langford, City of Colwood and Town of View Royal, who jointly own the facility. Revenue/cost percentages are based upon population and property assessments which are reviewed annually in September.

The City of Langford generates revenue by leasing the Detachment building at the corner of Veterans' Memorial Parkway and Goldstream Avenue in Langford to the West Shore RCMP. Revenue is also generated through the Canadian Firearms Program and Capital Region Emergency Services Telecommunications (CREST) Incorporated. All revenue costs are split between the three contributing municipalities and used to cover the operating costs of the Detachment building. The partnership between City of Langford, Colwood and View Royal also extends to sharing the cost of certain municipal employees serving at the detachment such as the Information Technology staff.

Each municipality has a Protective Services Committee which a RCMP representative attends.
