Humpback/Irwin Trail Connector

The City of Langford received a Bike BC grant to construct the Humpback/Irwin trail connector.

The trail is being constructed south of the railway tracks as a shared path for both directions of travel with a wooden split rail fence separating the paved path from vehicle traffic on Humpback Road. For the portion of the southern end of Humpback where it connects to Irwin Road, there will be an off road gravel path along Irwin Road that will connect to the new paved road edge trail located beside Irwin Road between Meridian and Creekside trail roads

For the portion of the paved trail north of the railway tracks, the trail will extend down the current western driving lane, the eastern vehicle driving lane will be widened slightly to accommodate two-way vehicle traffic such that bikes/pedestrians will use the west side of the divided Humpback Road and vehicles will use the east side.  No large trees need removing to accommodate this design.

The railway gates will remain closed and cyclists will dismount to cross the railway. No large trees in the existing median on the northern end of Humpback Road are required to be removed as part of this project.

Barring any weather delays the City is trying to finish this project by the end of November.
