Business Licences

All businesses operating in the City of Langford require a business licence.  Business licences are perpetual and there is no expiry or renewal requirement unless the business closes or moves to a new location.

The cost of a business licence is a $100 one-time fee; however, for commercial spaces over 5000 ft2 the fee is $200 (one-time). If the business moves to another location a new application will be required with a one-time $10 fee.

Business licences take approximately ten (10) business days to process as they are reviewed by the following departments:

  • Building
  • Bylaw Enforcement
  • Planning
  • Fire

Required Submissions

Floorplans are required for two types of permits:

  1. Commercial spaces.  Applicants may wish to contact a building inspector prior to submitting an application to learn more about what is required; and
  2. Daycare spaces.  Similarly, applicants might want to speak to someone in the Planning Department regarding daycare requirements.

Inter-Municipal Licences

Inter-municipal licenses are also available to Langford residents which allows a mobile business to operate in all thirteen (13) municipalities within the Capital Regional District.

The application form is the same for both a regular business licence and an inter-municipal one.  The only difference is that with an inter-municipal licence a laminated numbered card is provided by the City of Langford.
