Home owner grant program

The provincial Home Owner Grant program is a property tax relief program to assist eligible owners reduce the burden of residential property taxes. The Home Owner Grant reduces the amount of property tax you pay for your principal residence and must be claimed each year, if eligible. Unclaimed grants constitute unpaid current taxes and are subject to penalty.

Please note that the provincial Home Owner Grant program is fully administered by the province, not the City. All Home Owner Grant applications are submitted online through eTaxBC. Residents no longer apply for the Home Owner Grant through their municipality. Everyone now applies online or by phone directly to the province. When you apply, they’ll need your social insurance number to verify your eligibility, and your property jurisdiction and roll number (found on your tax notice). Update your mailing address

We need your correct address in order to mail a tax notice to you.

  • If you move, or if your mailing address has changed, please notify the BC Assessment Authority at ​​1-866-valueBC (1-866-825-8322). Alternatively, you can also visit the BC Assessment website and complete their Change of Address form.
  • Unless a new address is provided, we will rely on the address (and ownership) records of the Land Title Office, provided to us by the BC Assessment Authority.
  • It is your responsibility to inquire if you haven’t received your property tax notice by the middle of June. If this is the case, please contact the Property Tax Department at (250) 391-3410
  • Non-receipt of your property tax notice does not exempt you from late payment penalties
