FAQs - Can I pre-pay my taxes monthly?

Question - Can I pre-pay my taxes monthly?

Taxes can be pre-paid in monthly installments or periodic lump sum amounts – the choice is yours. Interest is paid on prepayments received up to April 30th and is calculated from January 1st (or the payment date) to June 30th. The interest rate paid is the rate set by the Province for tax overpayments and is generally a higher than the rate paid on savings accounts.

The simplest and most flexible way to make prepayments is to set up recurring payments through online banking. Simply set up "Langford City Property Taxes" as a payee and enter your folio number (upper right corner of your tax notice) as the account number. Enter the folio without the decimal. With this method of payment, you retain complete control. If you want to change the payment amount or date or skip a payment altogether you just go online and make the change.

Prepayments can also be made in person at City Hall. For 2020, for the health and safety of yourself, City staff and other taxpayers, please consider paying online. Another alternative is to provide the City with a series of post-dated cheques.

The City does not have a program where we automatically transfer money from tax payers' bank accounts.
