City Centre Park Earns Prestigious Award

Langford's City Centre Park has earned a Facility of Excellence Award from the British Columbia Recreation and Parks Association. The award, to be officially received at the May 5 Langford Council meeting, acknowledges how the facilities at City Centre park have played an important role in encouraging healthy lifestyles for residents of all ages and abilities.

City Centre Park's multi-use facilities include a dry floor arena, an ice arena, two all-weather sports fields, walking trails, exercise stations, a Playzone, mini golf feature and a splash park for children that converts to an outdoor skating area in winter. A YMCA/YWCA aquatic centre currently under construction is scheduled for completion in 2015.

Rugby Canada and the Westshore Rebels football team both use the facilities for practices and games, and construction is underway for a Rugby Canada Training Centre of Excellence.

Langford Council has a longstanding commitment to providing the best recreational opportunities for Langford residents, said Mayor Stew Young. “We are pleased and honoured to receive this award,” Mayor Young added. “City Centre Park is the result of a lot of work by everyone involved in the completion of many of the world class facilities, including the various youth and sports organizations, sponsors, volunteers and the business community. It's also important to recognize the support and funding we have received from the Federal and Provincial governments that have helped make City Centre Park what it is today.”
