Greater Victoria Public Library Board Approves New Branch for Langford

The Greater Victoria Public Library board has passed a motion to work with the City of Langford and the YMCA-YWCA to establish a neighbourhood library branch in the new YMCA-YWCA facility, which is scheduled to open in early 2016.

“The West Shore has a growingpopulation of families, children and youth of all ages, and libraries are an essential component of healthy, thriving communities,” says GVPL Board Chair Greg Bunyan. “We are excited that GVPL willbe co-located with the YMCA-YWCA and look forward to exploring new program and partnership possibilities to serve the West Shore community.”

The new YMCA-YWCA, which will be located on Langford Parkway near City Centre Park, will feature an aquatic centre, gymnasium, health and fitness facility, daycare centre and library. The library will be a neighbourhood branch of approximately 4,000 square feet.

“We are pleased and excited to be able to work with the Greater Victoria Public Library on the creation of a branch that will be part of the new YMCA-YWCA Aquatic Centre in Langford,” said Langford Mayor Stew Young. “The new branch will certainly be put to good use by our residents, and helps address the long-term needs of our growing community.”

GVPL will keep the public informed as plans for the new branch are developed. Library patrons can visit www.gvpl.ca/langford for updates.
