NEW BURNING REGULATIONS IN EFFECT

Langford, BC, September 15, 2014– The City of Langford has amended the Fire Regulations Bylaw in an effort to reduce the amount of smoke generated from open burning and to improve the air quality during scheduled burn days. It is anticipated that these changes will benefit those who have health problems affected by smoke and it will reduce the amount of greenhouse gases that are released into the environment.

Only idividually-owned residential properties that are 2023 square meters (0.5 acres) or greater in size.

Residents of properties that qualify can apply for an open burning permit between November 1 and November 30 and between February 15 and March 15.

Residents who do not meet the requirements of the new regulations are encouraged to use alternative solutions (the Three C’s) to burning: chipping, composting, commercial disposal.

More information regarding the new regulations can be found here.
