For the second year in a row, Kennametal has stepped up to the plate and acknowledged Earth Day on April 22 by organizing a cleanup in Langford.

About 20 Kennametal employees rolled up their sleeves, donned vests and grabbed litter pickers and garbage bags to pick up litter along a stretch of Station Avenue between Jacklin Road and Veterans Memorial Parkway.

Kennametal has a 73-year history in Langford and our employees take a lot of pride in this community, said Kennametal plant manager Ron Sivorot. “This is a good way to acknowledge the significance of Earth Day and a great opportunity for us to give something back and try and make a difference.”

Sivorot said he hopes Kennametal's efforts will inspire other businesses, groups and organizations to get in on the act next year.

The City of Langford provided some of the tools of the trade needed for the trash removal, and the Capital Regional District arranged for pickup, sorting, recycling and trash removal.

The City of Langford and our residents appreciate the good corporate citizen approach exemplified by Kennametal, said Jane Waters, City of Langford Parks Planner.
