The City of Langford will add more seats to Westhills Stadium, thanks to a funding grant from the Federal Government of Canada. The Honourable John Duncan, Member of Parliament for Vancouver Island North, made the announcement at Westhills Stadium in City Centre Park on Thursday April 17 to an appreciative crowd that included representatives and players from Rugby Canada.

The funding of $232,500, which was made possible through a Western Economic Diversity Canada grant, will add about 1,200 seats to Westhills Stadium, boosting capacity to about 3,500. Mayor Stew Young noted that Rugby Canada's popularity had resulted in sold out crowds two years in a row for the Americas Rugby Championship tournaments in 2012 and 2013. Young praised Duncan for his efforts in securing the funding, and thanked the Federal Government for helping fund improvements at City Centre Park, including Westhills Arena and Langford Lanes family bowling centre.

“The residents of Langford are extremely grateful to the Federal government and Member of Parliament John Duncan for his invaluable assistance in securing funding for improvements in Langford,” Young said in presenting Duncan with a plaque on behalf of Langford Council and residents.

Minister Duncan praised Langford Council's efforts in providing residents with some of the best recreational facilities in the region, and said the Federal Government was pleased to be able to assist a community that is committed to providing the best of everything for its residents.
