The City of Langford is proud to have strong, visionary leadership in its elected representatives. General local elections in B.C. are held every four years on the third Saturday in October. The next general local election in Langford will be held on October 15, 2022.
Stewart Young grew up and attended school in Langford and is now a local business owner. Mayor Young was a Councillor when Langford was first incorporated in 1992. He was elected Mayor in December 1993, and has been declared Mayor in the following seven elections.

Denise Blackwell is a long-time resident of Langford. She has been a City of Langford Councillor since incorporation in 1992 and is the Chair of the Planning and Zoning and Affordable Housing Committee. Councillor Blackwell serves as Chair on the Capital Regional Hospital Board and Vice-Chair of the Capital Regional District Board as well as holding the following other CRD appointments: Committee of the Whole, Capital Regional Housing Corporation, Core Area Liquid Waste Management Committee, First Nations Relations Committee, Governance and Finance Committee, Solid Waste Advisory Committee, and the Transportation Committee.

Matt Sahlstrom was born in Victoria and has been a resident of Langford since 1969. Elected to the Langford City Council in November of 2002, Councillor Sahlstrom chairs the Administration & Finance Standing Committee. He is Langford’s representative to the Greater Victoria Library Board, the Family Court and Youth Justice Committee. He is an alternate Director to the CRD Board, Regional Water Supply and Commission and Juan de Fuca Water Distribution Commission, the Langford Representative on the Island Corridor Foundation.

Lanny Seaton has been a resident of Langford and an active member in local sports, youth organizations and community groups for over 50 years. Councillor Seaton has proudly served as a Langford Councillor since 1996. He is Chair of the Parks, Recreation, Culture and Beautification Standing Committee, and Vice-Chair of the Protective Services Standing Committee. Councillor Seaton is a Director on the Capital Regional District Board and Hospital Board as one of Langfords representatives as well as the following other CRD appointments: Core Area Liquid Waste Management Committee, Island Corridor Foundation, Planning, Transportation and Protective Services Committee, Regional Parks Committee and Vice-Chair of the Transportation Select Committee. Councillor Seaton is Langford’s representative to the West Shore Parks and Recreation Society and the Greater Victoria Public Library Board.

Norma Stewart has been a resident of Langford since 1970. She served as Chair of the Agricultural Advisory Committee as well as being a citizen representative on the Planning, Zoning and Affordable Housing Committee for the past 12 years. Councillor Stewart serves as Vice Chair of the Transportation and Public Works Committee and is Langford’s representative to the WestShore Chamber of Commerce and an alternate representative on the Regional Water Supply Commission and Juan de Fuca Distribution Commission. Councillor Stewart will be Acting Mayor from July 1st, 2021 to December 31st, 2021.

Lillian Szpak has been actively involved in our beautiful and growing community since moving to Langford from Lahr, Germany in 1993. Lillian is a mother and a grandmother and has an MA in Leadership Studies from Royal Roads University. She is proud to be serving her sixth consecutive term on Langford Council. Councillor Szpak serves as Chair of Langford’s Protective Services Committee and Vice Chair of the Administration and Finance Committee. Councillor Szpak represents Langford on the following Boards and Commissions: Langford representative to Regional Water Supply Commission and Juan de Fuca Water Distribution Commission, Capital Regional Services Telecommunications Board (CREST), Alternate Director to the CRD Board and Langford’s Liaison to the Inter-Municipal Committee on Disability Issues.
